Written by Valencia Legodi

Olievenhoutbosch born and raised Sasha Matava (24 September 1999) is a managing director of Olieven fashion show and he is currently running Miss Centurion grand SA. Matava is currently completing degree in economics development and planning at University of South Africa (UNISA), his vision is to influence change to others, impact young people’s lives positively and collaborate with different talented individuals that have the same goal in mind

He started participating in arts and cultural activities when he was in high school, in grade 10 he participated in a project called youth citizens action program (YCAP) which taught him how to profile, address challenges that are faced by the community and run projects.

“I joined art and cultural activities with Rasta, working with him made my childhood meaningful and it actually helped me realise certain things I did not know about myself and my abilities. i know that a lot of young people from Olieven are ashamed  to mention the role that Rasta played in their careers and personal lives, but I am not ashamed of the fact that he shaped who I turned out to be today” Matava said.

His passion for modelling began in university when he helped out with pageants shows and fashion events, Olieven fashion show and miss Centurion grand SA are ran with the assistance of his executive team. He works with fashion designers, models, make-up artists, photographers from Olievenhoutbosch including solightened clothing and they also receive sponsorship from local businesses such Olive lifestyle, Ad spectrum and Gathakgalo.

Sasha mentioned that he was once depressed because he did not have money to fund his education, at that time it looked like he would never get a chance to be the change he wants to see in his family. He added that he felt like he failed himself and he did not believe that he would ever overcome that situation. After his recovery he started brand embrace media entertainment Pty Ltd with his friend Observe Ndou, who ran the music department while he ran the event hosting department.

In few years’ time from now he sees himself as entrepreneur with strong personality and as an inspiration to a lot of business owners, event planners and different talented individuals with big dreams. The advice he has for upcoming entrepreneurs is that they should allow themselves to make mistakes, fail and rectify them while making history. Failure does not define your journey or cancel God’s plans about your life; it is just a phase that strengthens an individual for the journey ahead.

  1. In a small township like Olievenoutbosch, it's actually pleasing to find a youth with a vision to inspire his/her peers. I for one as a model who is still growing can say that pageants are a great platform to drive change not just to the pageant organisers butalso to the models and the community, and I believe that his vision will take him to greater heights and also impact many lives. I count myself amongst the many people who will be/ have been positively impacted by his works, as I have had the chance to participate in his events. Finally, I think we need more youths who will stand in the gap to help other youths as it will have a great impact in many lives.
