DJ LUNGSTA, THE NUMBER ONE KASI REPRESENTER
By Valencia Legodi
Johannesburg born and raised Tshepo Lunga Madihlaba also
known as dj lungsta da mixsation (9th September 1990) is the next
young artist to take the industry by storm. The radio dj and presenter kick
started his dejaying career in 2013 at a friend’s place where he learned the
basics of mixing.
With the likes of dj fresh as his inspiration he decided
to pursue a career in radio and in 2014 he was told that there was a recently
opened community radio station in diepsloot that was looking for volunteers. He applied at
the radio station and was later hired as a journalist; he trained at 702
stations and eye witness news.
He gradually learned the systems and techniques of being
a radio presenter and combined them with the experience he had acquired over
the past years “I had a background of being a school president ,a debater and a
life coach at love life, I learnt communication skills and public speaking. I
wanted to be a great example in the community and show people in small
communities that you can make it regardless of your background” he said.
DJ Lungsta’s first achievement was getting to create
content for his show and that of the other presenters, he enjoyed teaching new
candidates about radio and how to be original while entertaining the audience.
His other achievements include events planning, granting upcoming artists with an
opportunity to establish their work on radio and growing Sloot FM’s
listenership.
“my drive comes from seeing my community and its young
people become great testaments of success and that Africa as a continent has
more to offer than what is portrayed to us” he said. The challenges he faced
when he started on radio was to connect with people he did not see and having
to learn how to paint a picture for the listeners, his other challenge was to
create content that people will relate to.
He is currently employed as a debt adviser full time
where he helps debtors to be able to recover their debts and maintain their
credit scores with more knowledge and approach in terms of financial literacy.
He still aims to become the best presenter across the globe and to make his
dreams a reality.
The advice he has for upcoming presenters and Djs is to
never forget who they are and the reason they pursued this career path in the
first place “you are the best when you are yourself, learn everything you need
to know about the industry, its ups and downs and how to handle the pressure of
being a media personality. Your life and purpose relies on what you do to make
your dream a reality” Dj Lungsta said.
