SHYLETT NDLOVU LAUNCHES HER FIRST BOOK

Written by Valencia Legodi

Diepsloot born and raised Shylett Ndlovu (11 November 2000) is a phenomenal writer that aims to inspire and empower people through writing. The radio presenter and blogger fell in love with writing back in high school, she started by writing songs, poetry and her thoughts in a journal. She later started blogging which improved her writing skills.

“I had a dream and in the dream the exact thing that I wrote about in the book happened, I wrote a poem and later I realized that there is more to tell regarding the story, so I was like why not expand the vision and write a novel” Shylett says.

Before writing her novel she used to read a lot of self-help and inspirational books. The book (untill death do us apart) tells a story of a woman who fell in love with a rich man that was too good to be true and perfect. Things changed when she married him and got pregnant, he started revealing his true colours and became a completely different man. In the book the woman explains how her beautiful fairy tale life turned into a nightmare and how she ended up in orange suits.

“This book is not written from a personal experience and it is not imaginary, it tells a story that every woman can relate to. Many women go through worst things in marriage and relationships, but they refuse to talk about it. Characters are made up but the story is relatable, it is like telling a true story through fictional characters” she explained.

Before the launch of the book “untill death do us apart” she had previously published a poetry collection book titled “matters of the inner part”, going through the poems made her realise that the poems can expand to lengthy stories. She also said that every poem in the book was dreamt and stories unfold in dreams, that is why she decided to unpublish the poetry book and write a novel.

“I believe that those

Stories or poems were given

 To me by the universe

 And the all mighty”

Challenges that she faced when writing the book were the noise level in her township, editing the book online and learning how to format, use spacing, how to design the cover. Another challenge was making a decision regarding publishing; she had to choose between having a well-established publisher and self-publishing. “I did not want to go around knocking doors only to be rejected, so to avoid rejection I decided to self-publish “Shylett said.

When she started writing the book she did not tell anyone about it, instead she watched videos of published authors on YouTube for tips. She believes that telling people about plans prematurely jinx them and by the time she told people about it the book was in the process of publishing and she knew that there was nothing that would stop the book from being published. The advice she has for the upcoming authors is that they should stick to their stories and not copy stories of others, sometimes it is hard to be consistent and disciplined, but winners never quit.

The book is found on Amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B089CC5F97 and eBook, for more information follower on Facebook @ ShylettN
