ASPIRING MEDIA PERSONALITY AIMS TO INSPIRE YOUNG WOMEN

Written by Valencia Legodi

Prudence Zimkhitha Botha born (25 February 1992) and raised in Eastern Cape is a mother to a handsome boy, youth developer, television and radio presenter that was raised in a Christian family. She was raised by her grandmother who passed on and she is the last born in her family.

The 28 year old has always wanted to be on either radio or Television; she would look herself in the mirror and imitate the news anchor Noxolo Grootboom “ndinithanda nonke emakhaya” she would say, mhlobo wenene FM DJ Mthobeli (KC) August inspired her radio career. Besides presenting she is a master of ceremonies (MC) and a vocalist, she is also part of Good Fellaz which is a community initiative that assists disadvantaged community members with what they need and lack.

“When I started pursuing my career in radio and television it was hard because I was inexperienced and I had to learn everything from scratch, I got rejected by lot of media companies because I lacked experience. I remember being rejected by Soweto TV because I had no experience and I could not volunteer as I would struggle with transport money” Zimmy said.

Botha struggled with finding employment after university until New North TV gave her a platform to learn and grow. Challenges that she is facing right now would be finding gigs where she can be the MC and listeners to tune in and interact with her every Saturday when she is live on the online Impulse radio. Another thing she sees as a challenge is that people often get opportunities because they know influential people in the media industry, which means is easier for them to know about posts in media companies and they are recommended before or as posts are newly advertised.

Few years from now Zimkhitha would like to own a radio station where she will give young black women a platform to learn, make mistakes and grow. She would also love to have an organisation that will teach young women about loving themselves, believing in who they are and help them use their talents to get somewhere in life and change their current situations.

The advice she has for young upcoming media personalities is that they should never give up on their dreams and to make a difference in other people’s lives. “People will discourage you, they will tell you that you are not good enough or you are not good at what you do, but don’t give up, I know it is not easy at all and I know for sure that it will all be worth it in the end. Have a vision, know what you want to achieve, work hard to make your dreams a reality and Remember to plan, dream and do it!” she concluded.
